Biography
I completed my BA, MA and MPhil degrees from Jadavpur University in Kolkata, India. Prior to starting my PhD at Illinois in 2022, I worked in academic publishing, as a copyeditor at the Jadavpur University Press and at Cambridge University Press and Macmillan. My interests span several subjects, and I envision the goal of my work to facilitate interdisciplinary conversations between literature, cinema and media, and information science.
Besides my academic work, I am also a creative writer, with a published book of poetry and some short stories and films.

Research Description
I work at the intersections of literature, media and information. My dissertation focuses on a longue durée informational history of biometrics, its origins in colonial Bengal, its growth through the British Empire, its application to civil life in post-independence India, and eventual transformation to its present state as a facilitator of global flows of information in the neoliberal order. As a scholar of Science, Technology and Society (STS), I am interested in how human factors mediate the development of science and technology. I am also a scholar of film and media, and hold a research interest in crime fiction.
