Creative writing professor Janice Harrington’s poetry collection, Yard Show, has earned a spot on the National Book Critics Circle’s 2024 NBCC Awards longlist for poetry. The poetry collection fuses Black history, cultural expression, and the natural world to investigate how Black Americans have shaped a sense of belonging and place within the Midwestern United States.

The awards honor literature published in the United States in the categories of autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The award longlists were released for the first time in the organization's history in honor of its 50th anniversary, the NBCC announced.

See People Magazine's article for the full list of longlisted titles and additional information about the awards.
