Biography

Amanda Bales completed her B.A. in English and Theater at Oklahoma State University in 2003, and her M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in 2008. After teaching at a variety of higher institutions across the country, she joined the University of Illinois as a Lecturer in Rhetoric and Creative Writing in 2016.

She is the author of the book Pekolah Stories, Cowboy Jamboree Press 2021.

Current Projects

Ms. Bales is currently at work on a novel featuring characters from her story collection, as well as a nonfiction manuscript which examines carceral feminism, sexual violence against women, and the Alford plea.
